Easy, super fun, and messy; Cloud Dough!
Almost 2 years ago I heard about DIY cloud dough (also called moon dough or moon sand) and I knew I needed to try it. It is AMAZING and messy all at the same time (nothing a few seconds and a broom can’t handle, or just send your kids outside to play with it.) The mess is totally worth the quiet time I get, and their creativity amazes me!
The dough looks and feels like flour, but you can mold it and create fun creations. My kids (and myself!) can spend hours creating castles, caves, and cupcakes!
Besides being fun; it also softens hands! For this batch, I used baby oil; but I think I might make my own container of cloud dough with Cocoa Butter Oil or Hawaiian body oil for indulgent moisturizing fun! You can pretty much use any oil, even coconut oil!
And guess what? With only 2 ingredients; even my kids can make it themselves!
Below is the recipe for a small batch. I’d make at least 1 batch for each child.
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup baby oil
In a large bowl or container; combine flour and baby oil. You can use your hands or something like a potato masher or pastry cutter. My dough was perfect with that ratio; but if your dough is too dry, just add a squirt of oil and mix again. If too wet; add a shake of flour. It is a forgiving recipe!
Our cloud dough container has knives, measuring cups, toothpick flags, cookie cutters, and other various toys. I just bought silicone cupcake cups that will be a fun addition to playtime.
Storage- Keep in airtight container. We do add a splash of oil each time we play. Our original cloud dough was made nearly a year ago and it has not spoiled, but we do wash our hands before playing so maybe that helps? Or maybe baby oil just doesn’t spoil!
Let me know if you try it!
