You can find a quiet and peaceful day at Lettuce Lake Park
Lettuce Lake Park
6920 E Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL 33637
For years I’ve wanted to visit Lettuce Lake Park. I had heard so many great reviews, but I just never got around to it until this week. Within minutes of arriving, I knew all the great reviews were true; it was simply beautiful!
There are many trails to explore, and a very cool boardwalk! I only had time for the boardwalk while I was there, but I will gladly visit again to walk the trails!
Here is the view from where I parked.
There are 2 pavilions right at the beginning of the boardwalk; they both looked like this one. The cool thing about the pavilions and boardwalk is that they are just a foot or two above land!
Most of the boardwalk was well shaded from the abundant trees overhead.
Keep an eye out for spiders; there are some cool looking ones in the trees. This beauty is a Red-femured Spotted Orbweaver.
I could have watched her all morning, but I had a mission to find some birds.
So off I went, but only a few steps away I found this guy. He’s a Limpkin, and I later found out Limpkins are a species of special concern because of the decline in their main food source; the Apple Snail.
But, lucky for him, there are Apple Snails in the area. Here are some of their eggs.
This beautiful Black Swallowtail butterfly flew right past me and landed in a nearby tree.
But now for the alligators; and there were several along the boardwalk.
Some were in the water.
Some were on logs.
And some were best viewed from far above the water in the 3 story observation tower.
Here is a gator viewed from the top of the tower.
And another one, the largest I seen all day!
You can also watch the canoes float by, or better yet, rent one!
I thought this flower was pretty.
And the view was nice too!
All in all, it was a great morning at Lettuce Lake Park! I will definitely be going back to explore the trails!
